[Omp] Dual Core , openmp

hello, I am interested in getting a new machine to do multithread
programming.  There are these new 'dual core' chips that seems to be
cheaper (1 cpu dual core is cheaper than 2 indvidual cpu). Anyone has
any comment on performance about these 2 architectures ?  will openmp
programming be any less beneficial in dual core ?  Also I use the Intel
compiler for openmp support, will it work equally effect with say dual
core from AMD ?  Since Intel's dual core is quite still rare (and
expensive).
