If you look at the following web page:

http://www.compunity.org/training/faq/index.php

Q2: What does the MP in OpenMP stand for?
A2: The MP in OpenMP stands for Multi Processing. We provide Open
specifications for Multi Processing via collaborative work with
interested parties from the hardware and software industry, government
and academia.

Yes, I suppose so, though sometimes labels evolve past their original
meanings. E.g., I work for Sun Microsystems, and Sun is now "just" our name,
even though originally it was an acronym. Similarly, OpenMP may originally have
had a meaning, but now maybe it's "just a name."

I think it's just "Open Multi Processing" or something.
There were various multi-threading directive-based programming
systems (e.g., from Sun, SGI, Cray, and others) and this was an
attempt to have an "open" (standardized) system for multi-processing
programming.

Note that in OMP, "multi-processing" is achieved with multiple threads
within a single process.

We don't use "OpenMP" as an acronym. I guess it means "Open Multi Processing"
but I don't believe that's an official designation.
