The OpenMP hackathon held at Brookhaven National Laboratory involved eight application teams from US national labs and universities working to fully leverage pre-Exascale systems using the latest OpenMP features. The event was sponsored by the Exascale Computing Project (ECP), the OpenMP ARB, cOMPunity and the SOLLVE team.
ECP SOLLVE, in conjunction with ORNL and NERSC, are organizing two OpenMP Hackathons in July and August. We encourage participation of teams interested in using OpenMP to port and optimize their applications on GPUs, and in using OpenMP for energy-efficient processor architectures.

We held an OpenMP BoF “OpenMP 5.0 is Nearly Here -- Find out All About It!” at the ISC2018 event in Frankfurt on Tuesday June 26th. There were over 80 attendees, filling the available space in the room. A summary of the session and presentations are now available online.
This Technical Report is the public comment draft for the OpenMP Application Programming Specification version 5.0 that augments the OpenMP API Specification version 4.5 with support for C11, C++14/17, and Fortran 2008, for concurrent loops, improved worksharing constructs, task reductions, runtime interfaces for first-party (OMPT) and for third-party tools (OMPD), major extensions to the device constructs, memory allocation features, improved task dependencies, and several clarifications and corrections.
The first UK OpenMP Users’ Group Meeting took place at St Catherine’s College Oxford on May 21st and 22nd. Over 40 people attended with everyone who completed the survey saying they would recommend it to colleagues, and rating it as either “Excellent”, or “Very Good”.
