The OpenMP ARB Appoints Ruud van der Pas and Eric Stotzer to its Board of Directors
Beaverton, Oregon — February 16, 2026. The OpenMP Architecture Review Board (ARB), which develops the standard API specification for shared-memory parallelization, welcomes Ruud van der Pas and Eric Stotzer to its Board of Directors. Their extensive involvement with the OpenMP ARB and strong involvement in the industry will bring important insight to the Board of Directors.
Ruud van der Pas is a respected figure in the HPC community through his work on parallel programming, and application performance tuning. He is recognized for his expertise in profiling and analyzing application performance on modern processor architectures, and has contributed significantly to the development and evangelism of performance analysis tools. He is a well-known voice in the HPC industry for helping developers unlock the full potential of HPC systems. Ruud has given talks and conducted OpenMP workshops and training across the world, both on the OpenMP API and on how to get scalable performance. He has co-authored two books on the OpenMP API, and is a well-known voice in the HPC industry, having given talks and conducted many workshops on OpenMP programming and scalable performance.
Eric Stotzer has been an active contributor to the OpenMP community for many years, including serving as co‑chair of the subcommittee that developed the OpenMP accelerator model. His work has helped shape how the standard supports heterogeneous and high‑performance computing across a wide range of architectures. In his current role at NVIDIA, Stotzer focuses on advanced compiler technologies for high‑performance and accelerated computing. He also brings experience from his work on neural network compiler development at Mythic, further strengthening the board’s expertise in emerging compute models.
These new appointments to the Board of Directors reinforce OpenMP ARB’s commitment to advancing a robust, portable, and forward‑looking parallel programming standard that meets the needs of modern computing.
“It is quite unique that a programming model not only continues to be heavily used for such a long time, but even increases both in terms of the support from the computer industry, and number of users,“ said Ruud van der Pas. “In my role as a board member, I plan to focus on the user side. I would like to help increase and widen the user base even further and also use my experience to improve the OpenMP API.”
“I’m excited to join the OpenMP Board of Directors, because the OpenMP standard has played an important role throughout my career and I care deeply about its future,” said Eric Stotzer. “Having co‑chaired the subcommittee that developed the OpenMP accelerator model, I’ve seen how collaboration across the community can drive meaningful progress in parallel programming. I’m looking forward to helping guide OpenMP’s continued evolution as we expand its capabilities for modern heterogeneous systems.”
“I am genuinely pleased that Ruud and Eric are joining the OpenMP ARB Board of Directors,” said Michael Klemm, CEO of the OpenMP ARB. “Their long history in the context of the OpenMP API and their ongoing involvement in the community make them a great addition to the OpenMP ARB Board of Directors. Both will provide a very broad perspective of the OpenMP ecosystem.”
“We are delighted to have Eric and Ruud join the OpenMP Board of Directors.,” said Partha Tirumalai, OpenMP ARB Board Member. “Their extensive experience in High Performance Computing and OpenMP will help us better achieve our mission and serve the OpenMP community well in the years to come.”
Ruud and Eric join Partha Tirumalai of Oracle, Barbara Chapman of Hewlett Packard Enterprise, and Duncan Poole on the OpenMP Board of Directors. See more about the OpenMP ARB Board of Directors.
